Rescue Village Open House

This coming Thursday Rescue Village will be having a public open house to review the expansion and renovation of the current building. Hope Brustein, who is the executive director, will show how these plans will allow Rescue Village to save even more animals and increase humane education around the county. Shelter tours will be available and refreshments will be served as well. Bring the family or invite your friends! If you you are looking for things to do today, then this is for you!

Geauga Consumer Connection Show

Looking for something to do today? Geauga County consumers can indulge in two of their absolute favorite activities at the Geauga Consumer Connection show this year: eating as well as shopping. And it is all for FREE!

This very popular annual show, which is scheduled for Tuesday, May 27, 2014, from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Sisters of Notre Dame Education Center Auditorium at 13000 Auburn Rd in Chardon, will be featuring scores of Geauga County businesses who will be sampling and selling their products and services to the consumers who attend.

One of the popular features of this well-attended show are the delicious and free food samples offered by area restaurants and food vendors. Consumers can graze their way through the exhibit hall as they learn about Geauga businesses and speak with owners and managers. Some of the businesses who are sampling food are Arabica Café, Cater 4 U Catering, Chow Down Catering, Rise & Dine Café, and Tommy’s Jerky, along with many others.

In addition to being able to taste some of the best food Geauga County has to offer, you can visit with local businesses and shop their products and services while you are there. Meet area businesses offering a variety of travel services; health care; financial services; furniture; pet services; home maintenance and improvement services; and more. There is so much to learn while you are here!

The Geauga Consumer Connection show is a great opportunity for you to ‘try before you buy.’ This fantastic once-a-year event is a can’t miss opportunity to discover local businesses from throughout the county while you are shopping local in Geauga! If you are looking for things to do today, you should celebrate the taste of summer at a Rib Burn Off on the grounds of Century Village Museum May 24 from 12:00 pm to 9:00 pm and May 25 from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Bring YOUR party to OUR party!

This first-ever occasion will bring unrecorded music in addition to neighborhood crafters, horse rides, pastime train rides, and kids’ amusements. The Geauga County Sheriff’s K-9 unit likewise will be close this weekend to present showings. On Sunday, Emeth Gymnastics will be performing a show as well.

Attendance is free for the Rib Burn Off, which will exhibit offerings from Blazin Bill’s, Warren’s Eli’s BBQ, Dickey’s BBQ and Old Carolina BBQ from Mentor, and Stewart’s Smokin BBQ from Kirtland. Attendees will pick the “Individuals’ Choice Award” by throwing votes at the People’s Choice Award table by putting a penny for every vote into determined jugs for every merchant.

Trophies supported by Great Lakes Outdoor Supply in Middlefield will be exhibited to the first- and second-put champs for best ribs and sauce.

The winners will be picked by a board of VIP judges, including Chardon Municipal Court Judge Terri Stupica, Geauga County Sheriff Dan Mcclelland, Burton Mayor Nick Fischbach, Juvenile/Probate Judge Timothy Grendell, Appellate Judge Diane Grendell, Tracy Jemison, Common Pleas Court Judge Burt ,and previous Browns player Ernie Kellermann.

Example ribs and full dinners, including ribs and side dishes, will be available for purchase from the rib sellers, alongside pulled pork, and brisket sandwiches. Sausage and battered chicken bites will be sold from the Historical Society’s Fritter Booth. A lager tent will also be open for business.

All around the weekend, revel in unrecorded music under the tent from Fletch and the Catch, The Geauga Highlanders, and The Ted Riser Band on Saturday, with 2guys12strings and Blue Lunch on Sunday. This unrecorded music is exhibited through the liberal backing of Preston Superstore.
